The Faro della Vittoria (‘Victory Lighthouse’)

Description

This imposing structure (67.85 metres high) has two important functions: commemorating the sailors who died in the First World War and guiding navigation by night in the Gulf of Trieste. The light is located 115 metres above sea level, revolves once every 30 seconds and has an output of approximately 1.2 million candles, providing an average range of 30 miles. The design of the lighthouse is by Arduino Berlam and work began in January 1923, concluding on 24 May, 1927 for an overall cost of Lire 5,265,000.
