The port of Duino
Description
In past centuries brazzere and trabaccoli would called here with loads of salt which, after being stored in a large storehouse, would be transported through Carniola (the current Slovenia) and northern Italy. In 1872, the Viennese Warhanek company established a sardine canning industry here (sardines had until then been preserved under salt in barrels). This factory closed at the outset of the First World War.
