Description
The cave is located within a small doline with vertical sides 50 metres above the motorway near the cemetery of Duino and close to S.Giovanni al Timavo. At the centre of the cave dedicated to the Oriental divinity Mithras, there are two parallel stone benches on which the participants to the rituals in honour of the divinity used to sit and two bas-reliefs depicting the sacrifice of a bull. The mithraeum of Duino is a rarity as it is one of the few of its kind located in a natural cave rather that in an artificial underground grotto.
