Description
In the early centuries of the Roman Empire, when the current lagoon was dry land, there were three river communications between Grado and Aquileia, all arising from the Natisone and branching off from the island of Montaron (Muntaron or Monton), at Panigai. The central one, the oldest and the shortest, was the natural continuation of the river that now is called Secco - canal di Morgo. The route to the west was made by the Anfora Vecchia canal, today in the upper reach called San Giuliano. The one to the east, which was also called Natisone, now coincides with the current canals of Mee, the Taiada and San Pietro d’Orio-Grado.
