140-160 cm, white, grey in juveniles, tubercle at the base of the beak, most evident in males. Present throughout the year, numerous at river mouths and in particular at the mouth of the Isonzo, nests preferably in areas with low salinity and near valli di pesca (local name:fishing reserves). Territorial during the breeding season, the couples are stable and both parents take care of the offspring.
