Phragmites australis
This forms extensive reed beds, particularly at river mouths. It resists moderate salinity by reducing its size. It is used for trellises, locally called grisiole, and for the construction of huts (casoni) on lagoon islands. Until the 1940s, the reeds were used to build nets fixed in shallow tidal waters (known as pescherini seraje and grasui de cana in the local dialect).
