Phalacrocorax pygmaeus
45-55 cm, sexes similar. It is present throughout the year and nests in colonies, associating with various species of herons in some groves of the lagoons. It has been seen to nest since 2010 and the species has rapidly become numerous in coastal wetlands, along the waterways of fresh water springs, in flooded quarries and other stretches of water in the lowlands. At the mouth of the Isonzo ,it is now common to see the three species of “cormorants” in the same site.
