Charadrius alexandrinus
15-17 cm, the male with a rufous neck and black stripes visible on the top and sides of the chest. The female has the same pattern but in grey. Present throughout the year, very few pairs nest occasionally in colonies of little tern while greater numbers can be seen during wintering. It was a common nester in the 1990s. It frequents sandy beaches where it is the subject of special conservation measures.
