28-31 cm, sexes similar, iridescent black uppers, white under parts with characteristic tuft on the neck and rounded wings. Present throughout the year, it nests in small colonies in agricultural areas and in some wetlands with low vegetation. Outside the breeding season it forms sometimes numerous flocks.
