Gadwall

Anas strepera

46-56 cm, with characteristic white speculum. Mainly a wintering species, but some pairs nest here. It frequents freshwater wetlands, the mouth of the Stella and the valle Cavanata. A dabbling duck, it feeds on plants and uses the presence of flocks of coots, especially diving ones, to its advantage, as these bring the underlying vegetation to the surface.
